Oral / Aural Training

Textbook: Mozaic 2 Listening, Silver Edition, Wegmann & Knezevic; McGraw Hill.

Course Aims:
?to practice and improve your speaking and listening.
?to improve understanding of a variety of spoken texts, including stories, films, radio & TV, songs...
?to work on sentence level pronunciation ?sentence stress and intonation
?to learn to listen for general meaning (gist), detailed meaning, specific information, speaker viewpoint, evidence, arguments ... and enjoyment.

Course content:
This course emphasises listening, and, to a lesser extent, speaking. We use a book full of speaking and listening activities, while doing a wide variety of supplementary activities. We listen to / watch radio, film and audio-book excerpts, as well as at least one whole movie (with detailed worksheets) each semester, songs, rhymes etc. There are also frequent group discussions and role-plays, related to what we have listened to. Homework will involve listening assignments using the Internet to access BBC and other useful websites. In the second semester students will be asked to keep a reading journal.

Evaluation:
Based on: classroom participation, attendance, homework assignments, and two examinations per semester.
